This project's concept came to me after I brought Mailbird east when I left for college. Originally purchased at a goodwill, this little owl had come a long way to be in my possession, much less Boston. Where had this winged wonder been before?
Weird notions of fate and time occupied my thoughts as I wondered where had this object existed before? I began to think of the ideas of displacement and geographic permanence. How does your environment, even your home, define you? What do our travels and our vacation photos have to say about the lives we lead?
With these questions in mind I sent Mailbird to answer them for me. I figured I would give him the chance to further explore the world. He is now flying through our postal system.
